Trento Area
Trento is a city of art, of history and represents a crossroads for the contrasting cultures of Italy and northern Europe. Among the many faces of Trento, one of the most striking is that of the alpine Renaissance city, which has been restored to its original splendour by recent restorations. Places to visit include the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the Duomo and its splendid square, the houses decorated with frescoes, the churches of the Council, the museums and exhibitions which today make Trento a city of art, culture and traditions beyond those of the Alps. Trento is surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes known for its mild climate. The high craggy limestone buttresses and spires of the Dolomites soar above the conifer forests and plains surrounding their foothills. At dawn and dusk their pinkish rock becomes tinted pastel pink, red, and violet, which is indeed a spectacular sight. The valleys, woodland, grassland, and small lakes between the peaks are breath taking. Monte Bondone, a few kilometres away from the city, is an important nature reserve of specific botanic nature that makes this mountain unique. The Botanical Alpine Garden, one of the most important in the Alps, and the "Nature reserve of the Tre Cime del Monte Bondone" are notable traveller destination offering numerous possibilities for walks in the summer. In the winter it turns into a paradise for ski lovers and winter sports.
