South Sardinia
The South of the island is known to host the capital of region Sardinia, such as Cagliari, with a population of about 400'000 people including the suburbs, occupying a favorable position between the sea and a fertile plain. Both the port and the international airport are the main gate to be introduced to the island of Sardinia, offering a wide number of historical and cultural main sights. Regarded places as Pula, Santa Margherita, Teulada and so on, positioned along the southern coastline attract an increasing stream of travellers, especially during the summer, ready to witness the beauty of the famous emerald water, the sandy beaches, the archaeological sites and the surrounding islands. The largest of these islands is Sant'Antioco, the third largest Italian island after Sicily and Sardinia itself, accessible by car crossing the connecting bridge or by sea, a real piece of paradise, with different, rarely overcrowded beaches and several, well preserved grottoes.
