Positioned in the region’s innermost, dominating the Tiber valley from a high and irregular shaped hill, closed-in by Etruscan city walls, Perugia nowadays proudly arises up as the capital of Umbria, offering an incredible greatness of value for its artistic and cultural patrimony, beside its breath taking natural environment, which makes nowadays Perugia one of the cities with the highest quality of life in the whole Italian country. Strong of important historic events, with a number of monumental proofs spread all over the city, Perugia is as well a cultural meeting point for travellers, students and generic visitors. A special mention deserves the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Prior’s Palace with its fresco cycle by Perugino and the Fontana Maggiore, a medieval fountain designed by Fra Bevignate and sculpted by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano. The city organizes each year lots of events, the most famous among all are the “Eurochocolate”, emphasizing the old tradition of delicious chocolate preparations, and the “Umbria Jazz” festival, attracting each year an increasing stream of visitors.
