Emilia Romagna

If you are looking for a typical Italian region, famous to be one of the top three gastronomic, cultural, historic and leisure destinations, offering you an amazing range of different activities and attractions, Emilia Romagna has got it all, proud to welcome real travellers in a perfect infrastructural system, leading them in a hospitality organization second to none in Italy.

As a matter of fact, the region is considered as one of the richest and most developed regions in Italy and in all Europe, with one of Italy's highest quality of life, highly advanced and modern social services. As the region’s name, consisting of two words, may suggest, Emilia Romagna includes two distinct areas with Bologna, the region's capital, marking more or less the dividing line. Emilia, with its prosperous provinces lined along its ancient Roman-built Via Emilia, occupies the western sector, while Romagna lies to the east of Bologna and stretches all the way to the Adriatic Sea, the historic town of Ravenna and the well-known resort of Rimini, all presenting something culturally, historically or gastronomically particular and special.

Back in the time when agriculture was the main source of business in the area, well-being and wealth were synonymous in the local culture and speech. The fertility of the Emilia-Romagna plains generated riches and strongly influenced the traditions and popular festivals. Nowadays, Emilia-Romagna's cities rank at the top of the national listing for the quality of life with Modena, Reggio Emilia and Bologna competing at times for the title of Italy's wealthiest city. This region is still a tourist mass attraction for young people since the 70’s along the famous Adria Riviera with the reference cities of Rimini, Riccione and Cattolica, welcoming each summer a terrific stream of young visitors ready to enjoy pure Italian night life.

Nevertheless, Emilia Romagna is coming out with several authentic natural, cultural and historic treasures, in order to attract a different kind of traveller, keen on touching history with its own hands, witnessing ancient culinary traditions and intact, well preserved Renaissance cities, experiencing different, natural sites, including the Po Valley, the wide countryside in the region’s innermost and the beautiful coastline at the Adriatic Sea. The seasonal cycles bring colourful changes to the landscape. Green summer leaves of the deciduous forests turn russet and gold in the autumn. In winter, snow blankets the year-round foliage of the evergreens. They are evocative landscapes, home to a rich diversity of plants and wildlife. Almost a thousand species of flora can be found in the parks, Lilies and orchids thrive in the woodlands. Numbers of deer and wild boar have all increased.

Every region in Italy will boast that it has the country's best food, but Emilia-Romagna can stake a pretty good claim. Restaurants in Bologna, Ferrara, Modena or Parma, are internationally established, from the chic gourmet restaurants onto the typical Trattoria, on whose menu cards you can find all the regional specialties, such as the different pasta arts Tortellini, Lasagne, Tagliatelle, Cappelletti, Strozzapreti, the world famous Parmesan cheese, the delicious Parma ham, the refined balsamic vinegar (Aceto Balsamico) and the highly valuable truffles, all accompanied by dry or sweet typical wines, such as Lambrusco, Sangiovese di Romagna and so on.

Last but not least, a special mention deserve the different sports car and houses such as Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini all having there museums and factory's in this region there really is no better place to visit for the sports car enthusiast. Emilia Romagna is home to one of the finest motorbike producers in the world, Ducati. Its factory is located near Bologna and a trip to its fine museum makes a wonderful day out.
